a_cup_of_cat_-_every_recipe_calls_for_itSometimes you need to spray a client, and you do not have enough of the blend you would like to use, or you would like to spray with a different DHA% then you have available.

You can mix two similar weight solutions together of different DHA%, to obtain an alternate DHA level.

Mixing Two DHA% for a different level

When mixing two blends together of different DHA levels, use similar blend types. Thinner blends will mix best with thinner blends. Sometimes when mixing a thicker blend with a thinner blend, it may not mix evenly.  You can mix different blend types, but we recommend to always test results first on yourself before spraying a client.

Do not premix in large batches, rather mix as needed. As items may separate in storage, this is especially true when mixing thin and thick products.

When mixing two blends, if mixed in a ratio of 50/50 quantity of each blend, you would add the two different DHA% numbers, and divide by two to obtain the DHA level in the final blend.

ABS is an abbreviation for Airbrush Solution

Example:

2 oz of 8% ABS mixed with 2 oz of 12% ABS equals 4 oz of a 10% ABS blend

The math behind this is 8 + 12 = 20

20 ÷ 2 = 10

10 is the DHA% of the combined products

Below is a quick reference chart.

Mixing ABSs with different % DHA

2 oz. 8% + 2 oz. 10% = 4 oz. 9%
2 oz. 8% + 2 oz. 12% = 4 oz. 10%
2 oz. 10% + 2 oz. 12% = 4 oz. 11%

Diluting a “too dark” solution:

Below is the “recipe” for mixing different DHA levels with water, to dilute a solution, and the results.

We recommend distilled water when available. But tap water may be used also. Shake product gently after adding water to mix.

Dilution chart for ABS

The chart is broken down into ‘parts’ – you can substitute any measurement for the ‘part’ as long as you remain consistent with both the ABS & the water Writing the formula in this way allows you to make any amount you want.

To change an 8% product: (works for a 9% starting formula also)

6% – use 3 parts ABS and 1 part water

An example of this in ounces:

6% – 3 oz. ABS and 1 oz. water

To change a 10% product:

6% – use 3 parts ABS and 2 parts water

7.5% – use 3 parts ABS and 1 part water

8% – use 4 parts ABS and 1 part water

An example of this in ounces:

6% – 3 oz. ABS and 2 oz. water

7.5% – 3 oz. ABS and 1 oz. water

8% – 4 oz. ABS and 1 oz. water

To change a 12% product:

6% – use 1 part ABS and 1 part water

8% – use 2 parts ABS and 1 part water

9% – use 3 parts ABS and 1 part water

An example of this in ounces:

6% – 2 oz. ABS and 2 oz. water

9% – 3 oz. ABS and 1 oz. water

Mixing 2 ABSs with different % DHA

2 oz. 8% + 2 oz. 10% = 4 oz. 9%

2 oz. 8% + 2 oz. 12% = 4 oz. 10%

2 oz. 10% + 2 oz. 12% = 4 oz. 11%
