Caramel the sweet confection, is made from cream and sugar. Its characteristic smooth warm brown color comes from the reaction between the added sugar and the protein in cream. This browning reaction is the Maillard reaction, the same reaction that causes the skin surface to brown from the application of DHA in Sunless Tanning products.
We use caramel in our Tan Extraordinaire Airbrush Tanning Solution to add a warm soft natural looking tint to this 99% natural ingredient blend. Clients that may be sensitive to synthetic colorant agents often find caramel is a beautiful non-reactive alternative coloring ingredient.
