Essential Fatty Acids

Essential Fatty Acids

EFA’s or Essential Fatty Acids are polyunsaturated fats that cannot be naturally produced by the body. These “good” fats are necessary for good health, and a deficiency will affect the body in many negative ways.

The two most commonly recognized EFAs are alpha-linolenic acid, (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6). Some researchers consider gamma-linolenic acid (omega-6), lauric acid (saturated fatty acid), and palmitoleic acid (monosaturated fatty acid) equally essential.

In skin health a shortage shows as dry, cracked, rough, crusted, scaling, inflexible, irritable, red, sensitive and/or diseased skin. Many skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, acne and psoriasis or over dry skin can benefit dramatically from oral and topical use of EFAs.

EFAs are abundant in oily fish, poultry, grains, eggs and a number of essential plants oils. Through dietary sources Most people have an abundance of Omega 3 fatty acids, but are short Omega 6 fatty acids.

Both are key to proper skin and body function.

EFAs are natures secret to soft supple skin, and for truly radiant skin, you should use these oils daily.
We incorporate EFA’s into our skincare products using plant extracts and natural sources high in these key essentials.

DHA

DHA

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) This plant derived ingredient has been used as a skin safe tanning agent for over 50 years in professional and consumer sunless tanning products. The most common natural sources are Sugar cane. We use Ecocert Certified Organic DHA in our Airbrush Tanning Solutions and skincare product line.

DHA does not change one’s skin pigmentation level as a UV based “real tan” with protective melanin. Instead it will create the “tanned” appearance by way of the development of a brown skin coloring, of the dead cells on the skin surface layer. The dead skin cells actually change color, they are not painted or stained. This process is very similar to the one commonly seen when a cut apple is exposed to the air, and the visible fruit cells turn brown.

DHA action is limited to the upper dead layers of the skin and involve a harmless reaction between DHA and the natural skin surface proteins. DHA reacts with the amino acids and amino groups of the skin keratin forming brown colored compounds. The process takes place in the outer layers of the epidermis. There is much evidence to suggest that the process is similar to Maillard reaction, also known as “non-enzymatic browning”.

DHA is the active tanning agent in all of our Airbrush Tanning Solutions, and our body care extender lotion, Tan Therape’. The development of the brown or “tanned” color takes anywhere from 2 – 12 hours and the intensity is dependent on the formulation concentration of the DHA in the product. The higher the DHA percentage, the darker or more concentrated the color will be.

Dead Sea Salts

Dead Sea Salts

Dead Sea Salts and Minerals are used effectively in the treatment of psoriasis, acne and other skin diseases. In many cases, psoriasis and acne may respond to this treatment approach better than to conventional medical ones.

Smoothing the skin surface to better prepare it for and even administration of Airbrush tanning solutions, and sunless lotions. Regular exfoliation will improve skin health, suppleness, look and feel, and help it to better absorb other skin beneficial ingredients.

Co-Q10 (Ubiquinone)

Co-Q10

Co-Q10 /Co-Enzyme (Ubiquinone) is a liposome that is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially linoleic acid, and protein. Our body produces smaller amounts of Co-Q10 as we age, so we must synthesize the rest from dietary sources. Food sources are fish, meat, eggs, spinach, broccoli, peanuts, wheat germ and grains.

Co-Q10 helps support cellular structure with its antioxidant protective action. It’s been shown to reduce the depth and appearance of wrinkles and increase skins moisture content.

Co-Q10 depleted skin is less able to produce new collagen and elastin, and is more prone to damage. Some studies have shown long term use significantly reduces crow’s feet lines around the eye area.

This ingredient is added to our Revive Airbrush Tanning Solution blend.
