Carragahenin, (Chondrus crispus) one of many skin nourishing seaweeds. It has been known for centuries that fishermen who handle carragahenin, also known as Irish moss, tend to have soft skin.

Scientists have since discovered that carragahenin interacts with human carotene to give amazingly soft skin. Used as a natural stabilizer, binding agent and emulsifier. Its anti-viral and anti-bacterial activity have brought this natural botanical to light as a possible compound with potential to kill cancer cells.

Carragahenin is unique in its ability to hold considerable amounts of water. Used in Airbrush Tanning solutions and body care products as a skin nourishing thickening agent, which helps hold moisture in the skin layers.

Caramel the sweet confection, is made from cream and sugar. Its characteristic smooth warm brown color comes from the reaction between the added sugar and the protein in cream. This browning reaction is the Maillard reaction, the same reaction that causes the skin surface to brown from the application of DHA in Sunless Tanning products.

We use caramel in our Tan Extraordinaire Airbrush Tanning Solution to add a warm soft natural looking tint to this 99% natural ingredient blend. Clients that may be sensitive to synthetic colorant agents often find caramel is a beautiful non-reactive alternative coloring ingredient.

Caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthine) from Coffee, Cocoa and Tea plants, can prevent and help repair sun damage to UV exposed skin, lessen puffiness, works as an anti-inflammatory, lessens skin flushing and redness. It is also used to help treat cellulite and has a strong antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties. (which means it may help destroy cancer cells, and prevent formation of new ones)

It improves blood flow within the skin surface and temporarily smoothes and plumps the skin. It has been shown to temporarily tighten and shrink blood vessels which improves the appearance of varicose veins.

Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) is a marine seaweed found along the coastal waters of the North Sea, the western Baltic Sea and Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Medicinally used because of its concentrated Iodine content which made it an effective treatment for thyroid related issues.

It has a high mineral content, and helps ease discomfort from swelling joints. It has skin softening properties, and can hold large amounts of water. It is added into Airbrush Tanning Solutions and Body care products as a skin nourishing thickener, that helps moisturize the skin.

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients which can prevent or slow oxidative damage to our body. They are found in many foods and botanical extracts. When our cells use oxygen in normal function, as a byproduct, they produce unstable molecules called “free radicals”. Free radicals also occur from pollution exposure, UV damage, stress, smoking, disease, and environmental sources.

However free radicals, especially in excess, can cause skin damage, premature skin aging, and tissue degradation, which can cause even young skin to looked tired, aged and worn.
